Claudia's grandmother, Mimi, has died. Claudia is devastated and feels she has lost one of her best friends. Mimi was a wonderful person who loved art and music, and Claudia feels she has inherited these traits from her grandmother. Claudia's sadness turns to anger when she discovers that Mimi's house has been sold and all of her belongings have been thrown away. Claudia is determined to find Mimi's beloved painting, which has been missing for years. Claudia's search for the painting leads her to a new friend and helps her come to terms with her grief.
