Do I have to be a neOwn subscriber to join?
No, you don’t have to be a neOwn subscriber to join. Our Reading Challenges are open for all children between the ages of 5-15 years.
Can we participate from anywhere in India?
Yes! The challenge is conducted completely online.
Which age group is this Reading Challenge for?
The reading challenge is for children between the ages of 5-6 years - 15 years (learning to read or independent readers).
Which books have to be read? Can kids read books of their choice, or is any list going to be provided?
Kids can read any books of their choice! For our challenges, the focus is on consistency and habit of reading for 25 mins a day rather than on choice of books
We can share some recommendations, but it’s not necessary to read only from the list of recos.
Will there be any Reading Challenge in the future where a reading list is provided?
Challenges will differ from month to month! So in case there is a challenge of that sort, we will notify you on the WhatsApp Group itself.
How will the monitoring be done?
We'll be sending a daily poll on the WhatsApp Group where you can log your child's 25 mins of reading.
As for the books which are read, we will do a weekly check-in on the group itself where parents can share the book names and pics/short reviews from the kids.
For any add-on challenges like Genre Explorer, Book Bingo, Vocabulary, etc - we share an additional Google Form to take your entries for those.
Where can I see my child’s progress in the Reading Challenge?
We have a Tracking Sheet for every challenge, on Google Sheets. We share the link for this sheet in the WhatsApp group for every challenge. Please note, the Tracking Sheet is only for viewing and not for logging your child’s reading.
I’m unable to join the Reading Challenge group, what do I do?
You will initially have to request to join the group and you will be added to the group 2-5 days before the next challenge begins.
My child is 4-5 years old and is not an independent reader yet. Can they participate in the Reading Challenge? How will they participate?
Yes, they can definitely participate! Since they are not independent readers you can be there to help out! The continued exposure and habit will help him to practice and improve their reading skills.
My child is learning to read currently. How can I help her to succeed in the Reading Challenge?
We would suggest starting out by sitting and reading with them to slowly build their confidence in reading. For the first few days you can do reading for the entire Challenge time together. Then move on to reading for 10-15 mins together and letting her read independently for 10-15 mins for a few more days. And then finally she can attempt to do the Challenge’s full daily reading time independently!
Another way would be to give them books that are more simple than what they are used to. This will also help them practice the basics of reading and gain the confidence to read more! Then, you can slowly increase the difficulty level of the books.
Do I have to read for the entire daily time in one go OR can I break it up throughout the day?
You can break it up or do it all in one go! As long as reading for the minimum daily time is done consistently.
Can my child read any time in the day?
Your child can read any time during the day, and you can mark their reading in the challenge at your convenience.
Cannot see your child's name on the list?
Please DM us with the name of your child and we will send you the row number where your child's name has been added on DM.
Can I log my child's reading late in the night, in case I only get free at that time?
Yes, the daily poll will be active for the day and can be filled till the next day morning, you can log your child's reading at your convenience.
Do I need to record a video of my child reading?
No video recording is needed for the basic level of the challenge. We'll be sending a daily poll on the WhatsApp Group where you can log your child's daily reading, and we will do a weekly check-in on the group itself where parents can share the book names and pics/short reviews of the books from the kids.
Where do I update my child's reading?
You can update your child's reading by selecting your answer on the WhatsApp poll sent on the group daily. The poll answers will be updated by us on the main tracking sheet.
